Chrysler Cuts 1,100 Brampton Jobs

THis is from the Star.
I wonder what Buzz thinks that the Conservative government should have done? Given more tax breaks to industry? Cerberus is going to savage Chrysler to turn it around no matter what anyone does. This is the destructive part of the creative destruction that is supposed to be Capitalism.

Chrysler Canada will cancel one shift and eliminate more than 1,000 jobs at its Brampton assembly plant early next year.
The company confirmed today that it will stop producing the Dodge Magnum wagon at the plant during the first quarter of 2008 as part of a program to reduce its lineup because of slow North American sales.

Chrysler plans to also kill the Chrysler Pacifica wagon at its Windsor assembly plant later this month, but did not indicate the impact on jobs. The plant has started producing a new generation of minivans whose demand may offset the loss of the Pacifica.

"This is just devastating," said Buzz Hargrove, president of the Canadian Auto Workers union.

Hargrove said the Chrysler moves in Canada and the U.S. will also trigger thousands of other layoffs in the parts sector here.

General Motors and Ford have already announced the elimination of shifts at two assembly plants in Oshawa and St.Thomas this year.

Hargrove blamed the Conservative government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper for not dealing with a "crisis" in Canada's manufacturing sector which has lost thousands of jobs particularly in Ontario during the last two years.
