Imperial Oil's refinery in Strathcona County, east of Edmonton, is operating at reduced capacity following a fire in the crude oil processing unit.

The fire sent thick black smoke billowing out of the plant late Saturday night. No one was hurt.

The fire and the blowing smoke weren't serious enough to cause any environmental problems for people living near the refinery, said Imperial Oil spokesman Pius Rolheiser.

The company is still trying to assess the damage.
